Got an response from Criterion today saying they will be sending the missing disc, and providing a prepaid envelope so I can send them the duplicate.

And it's able to be purchased this time, unlike when it popped back up earlier this weekend

Ha, wow, I was able to add it to my cart and get to checkout when I posted that, now it's gone. Crazy. I never had any intention of buying a second copy to scalp, hopefully all these didn't go to some jerk taking advantage of the brief window to get eBay fodder

Even if you discovered an issue in 5 years, I should think that Criterion would still help to resolve the issue at that time, even if the set has gone OOP in the interim. (They still offer replacements for Pierrot le fou, for instance.)
Criterion is an AMAZING company (as we all know here). I have been very lucky with most of my original DVDs but found A Night To Remember had rot. I contacted Mulvaney and they immediately sent me a replacement of the original printing! They replaced a disc that was over 20 years old!

And gone again. So is this going out of print? I'm confused why amazon isn't carrying it.

They're just selling through whatever stock they've been able to obtain. There won't be a repress ready til February

I wonder what the odds are that the repress will be available in time for Criterion's next flash sale. I planned to purchase it then due to Loyalty (and kevyip woes).

Discs (labels at least) are a-ok in my set. Thought for a moment #7 was a repeat of #1, but the font just tricked my eyes

I wanted to put it on my Xmas list. Guess I won't be. Sad.

Oh well, so long as it doesn't actually go out of print I'll pick it up next year.

Looks like he's an online retailer so I doubt he scooped those up at Barnes & Noble stores or anything. Sure, he added $50 to MSRP, but that'll easily be eaten up in eBay fees.

Here's the really infuriating thing, and it's germane to this forum:

Comes from eBay's automatic suggestions when entering "box" or "box set" in the title, I've had it crop up before

I'm lending ten of the thirty discs in the set to a friend for a few weeks (haven't even watched them yet!). If I don't get them all back in perfect condition, hoo boy will there be hell to pay. ;)

I mean, it's like loaning money to a friend. Don't give it out if you can't live with not getting it back

Didn't Robert Redford's character in Indecent Proposal say something to the same effect?
