Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Those are just all the titles in WB's Val Lewton box, and technically his statement is already true, so there could be no additional films coming from either label...

Of Mice and Men ('39) on Filmstruck has the Criterion ident beforehand, which confirms the title is in the library as was speculated literally three years ago

I guess I could be misreading, but I read that as some on this list are with Criterion and some are with Shout.domino harvey wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 10:40 amThose are just all the titles in WB's Val Lewton box, and technically his statement is already true, so there could be no additional films coming from either label...

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
And, seriously, if WB was willing to license Cat People out, why would they want to be more protective of Lewton's lesser known films?dwk wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 12:41 pmI guess I could be misreading, but I read that as some on this list are with Criterion and some are with Shout.domino harvey wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 10:40 amThose are just all the titles in WB's Val Lewton box, and technically his statement is already true, so there could be no additional films coming from either label...

Huh? One title has been released by each label, thus some of the titles have already been released. Not sure where I suggested WB are being protective of anything. I suspect if either label wants more, WB will say yes

Got it; I misunderstood your original post and thought you were emphasizing that it was unlikely that additional titles would be licensed.domino harvey wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 1:12 pmHuh? Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
As much as I would love those other Val Lewton horrors to be released on Blu (especially The Seventh Victim and The Ghost Ship), the real coup would perhaps be releasing the two non-horror films that Lewton produced in the middle of the cycle in 1944, if just as supporting feature extras: Youth Runs Wild, directed by Mark Robson, and Mademoiselle Fifi by Robert Wise.

Magnificent news!! "Death in Venice" and "Ossessione" by the great Visconti has been restored in 4k with negatives by Cineteca di Bologna, new negatives of "Ossessione" were discovered and the lengt is now 140 min, before this discovery the lenght was only 93 min!!!
Now there is a real possibility of a gorgeus blu-ray release!!
Do you have any prevision about that?

The BFI DVD of Ossessione ran 134 minutes, which is ~140 with PAL speedup

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
I didn't remember that, in any case it's a great news!I'm particularly excited about Death in Venice, The Damned, the first of the trilogy, was restored years ago but i dont' know if it was a 2k or 4k scan...it's not specified, neither in the italian offical site.
Like someone posted before a "Visconti's German Trilogy Box Set" would be a dream...
Do you think it will be released soon? maybe you remember similar situations...
Has someone see the new restorations?(no spoiler please)i hope the retrospective arrive here in Italy soon...

It's in the list here, sorted by spine number. Not sure if that's how dwk found it originally.

If you go to the site's search mode and enter A Raisin in the Sun the page comes up.

Not the Bergman I expected to be upgraded next...maybe we'll be getting them sporadically throughout the year? Or more this month?

Hm... another misdirect designed to deter us from their readily apparent IB100 plans - but I'm onto them...

I swear someone made a post yesterday on reddit saying that a film historian confirmed that there was going to be a IB 100 boxset. Can't seem to find that thread though.

Would three upgrades in a month be a record of some sort?

June 2014 had four upgrades.
