Disregarding Criterion or Kellerhouse's involvement, on its own merits, that cover belongs in the Twilight Time thread. (I'm gonna stop now.)

Why would a film so profound and transcendent require a layered collage and playful typography? The cover needs a simple and understated treatment.

The typography is the only thing I like about it

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol. 7
I just now noticed that a scuba-suited Benjamin is visible on the left side of The Graduate's Blu-ray. I've had this release for five months.
Since this isn't shown in the Criterion Forum packaging shots, I figured this slipped by some people (including me). It's only visible in certain lighting, so apologies for the low-quality picture.

Tree of Life has a new cover
And Criterion has started a new series called Studio Visits and the first one is with Riccardo Vecchio on his cover for Certain Women

Are you kidding, it's infamously our fault that they changed the Viridiana cover!

I read that as "impotence" and it still works

That's such a massive improvement, I felt an almost physical relief on seeing it here. Because of how excited I was for the rest of the actual content, I didn't realize how invested I was in the cover changing until it happened.

Interesting. Such a dramatic change. I do like it. Has there ever been such a big switch before?

Must have missed that. Didn’t even realize Sex, Lies and Videotape had a change in cover.

In addition to the aforementioned Viridiana and sex, lies and videotape, there was also A Christmas Tale, which went fromFrauBlucher wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 6:04 pmInteresting. Such a dramatic change. I do like it. Has there ever been such a big switch before?

the upside down beach is a little odd, but this is such a massive improvement over the old cover that i cant really complain. looks even nicer with the spine:

I saw much more savage mockery of the original cover on Twitter than on here.Altair wrote:So Criterion does read this forum, after all!

The Element of Crime also underwent a pretty big change from its original cover:

Absolutely love the new cover for The Tree of Life. I was going to buy it regardless, but after waiting so long, it was a bit anticlimactic it had such a terrible cover. Love that they responded to the customer complaints and delivered a much needed improvement.
As an aside, what's the story behind the Viridiana cover change referenced here?

I think I'm the only person on this forum who liked the first cover for Tree of Life.

The new cover reminds me a bit too much of Gone Girl. It’s an improvement though.

I don't remember the details, but the original was pink, and everyone here flipped out. The made it black and white. Everyone calmed down. It was pretty obviously in response to the uproar on the forum.

So happy to see the new and improved cover artwork. It is exactly what I hoped it would be! And it is a digipak too!
