You have to tip your hat to whoever programmed the double bill of The Bicycle Thief and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

Re: New York City Repertory Cinema
BAM Cinematek's upcoming Michael Cimino and Peter Brook retrospectives look fantastic. If it's the same AMPAS print of Year of the Dragon that just screened at the New Beverly in L.A., you're in for a real treat. Amazed that they scored a 35mm print of The Sunchaser, too.

Re: New York City Repertory Cinema
Is there any centralized place to find info about non-New York repertory cinema? I'm often finding myself in other cities with an evening to kill for work, but finding showtimes for anything but the latest multiplex fare seems much harder than it should be.

Good question. I often look at Park Circus' listings, as they're responsible for distributing prints to repertory houses, and you can search by city.jindianajonz wrote:Is there any centralized place to find info about non-New York repertory cinema? In my experience, a city's main alt-weekly will typically be a good starting point.

New Film Forum calendar.
A great 3-D program which includes some archival prints of films like Revenge of the Creature. Also a Busby Berkeley retrospective.

I love how these series toggle between the East and West coasts. The Cinefamily got the ball rolling on the Wiseman retrospective a few months ago, so I'm guessing they'll get the British new wave films soon. UCLA's Billy Wilder is showing the same print of Hester Street on a double bill with Sally Potter's The Gold Diggers earlier in the month.

Does anyone know if the Dino Risi Retrospective @ MOMA was a one-off or will it tour other cities?

Hm, Eyes Wide Shut should be playing on 35mm at the same time...is it going to be in a tiny, cramped theater?

I didn't ask. I assumed the large room because there will probably be VIPs.

April and late March at Metrograph includes a ton of great films in 35mm, including a retrospective featuring films based on AI, Bunuel in Spain, Thieves Like Us by Altman, John Ford, and James Grey's films.
Now if only they'd program some of these films on a weeknight between 4pm and 9pm!

I did and read about the first two programmed retros...I guess I missed that it would be totally new ownership!
