Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
You guys are bringing this alllll back to me ... how I got ripped off by Gorila before I wised up and tried again with DVDBest, and how the silver lining was that I had to get that smokin' Slovak gal to translate for me all over again, and how I still get deluged with spam from both websites, half a decade after I last used them. Good, uh, times?

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
These came out some time ago, and are now pretty much redundant given the more recent Alain Robbe-Grillet HD releases elsewhere - unless you have a hankering to see them in Slovak, I suppose.

If anybody is looking for these long-unavailable discs from the Slovak Cinema of the '70s / '80s collections, SFI recently re-released them...

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
Thanks for the review, compare Slovak Cinema, I'd recommend the DVDFab DVD/Copy, better and easier to use.

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
What is Klapka's international shipping cost like? I was thinking about picking up one of the SFI discs from them, but I remember looking at DVDBest's pricing a while back and while the discs are of course nominal, all told I would end up paying like 20-30 bucks above what it costs to just buy the movie. Is this also one of those cases where I'm better off waiting til I'm getting a bunch of stuff to offset the cost to actually go stateside?

On the occasion of Slovakia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2016, the SFI plans to issue a collection of ten Slovak films on BDs. The collection contains films made over a period of several decades, wherein The Sun in a Net (Slnko v sieti, dir. Štefan Uher), The Boxer and Death (Boxer a smrť, dir. Peter Solan), Birdies, Orphans, and Fools (Vtáčkovia, siroty a blázni, dir. Juraj Jakubisko), I Love, You Love (Ja milujem, ty miluješ, dir. Dušan Hanák) and A Path Across the Danube (Chodník cez Dunaj, dir. Miloslav Luther) were made in the period of state cinematography of socialist Czechoslovakia, while Everything I Like (Všetko čo mám rád, dir. Martin Šulík), Paper Heads (Papierové hlavy, dir. Dušan Hanák), The Power of Good: Nicholas Winton (Sila ľudskosti – Nicholas Winton, dir. Matej Mináč), Blind Loves (Slepé lásky, dir. Juraj Lehotský) and Soul at Peace (Pokoj v duši, dir. Vladimír Balko) were made after the fall of communism. The above films reflect the auteur, thematic and stylistic diversity of Slovak cinema; several of these films won prestigious world awards (for instance, the Silver Bear from the Berlin IFF for Best Director for I Love, You Love or the International Emmy Award for Best Documentary for The Power of Good: Nicholas Winton) or they managed to appeal to a broad domestic audience as was the case of Soul at Peace (2009). The collection of films on BDs will be launched in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian language versions.

Holy cow. I am buying every single one of these. Still, it pains me that Elo Havetta doesn't get a disc in there. Path Across the Danube is fine and all, but Fete in the Botanical Garden and Wild Lillies are representative of such a rich, original voice in film. Hopefully they do another set of these later, and get to some of the other dynamite films from their collection.

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
How will you buy these releases?
Bit confused about this part. Does this part really mean language or subtitles? Also, do you guys think that these films will probably be released by Second Run in UK? In any case, this really exciting news.the collection of films on BDs will be launched in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian language versions.

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
I'm assuming subtitles. And there's no chance of Second Run releasing all of these.

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
Tried to place an order with assistance from my Slovak friend sitting next to me. Something went wrong. My friend told me that at the last step the message was - order was submitted! But, I didn't even get the chance to put my card information. I mean that I didn't pay! I am still waiting for a confirmation email from them.admira wrote:http://www.klapka.sk/sk/produkty/blu-ray/kolekcia/

I did the same thing, though I didn't see an option for credit card - only cash, COD, or bank transfer. I chose bank transfer. Hopefully they're just gone for the weekend and will email the transfer details on Monday. I can't wait to see Uher and Jakubisko in HD!

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
I ordered the set via bank transfer. To do that, they have to provide some numbers, an IBAN #, etc. That has to come via e-mail, to complete the process. That's probably what will happen with your order as well. Hopefully that will all go well. Looking forward to seeing what the transfers are like!
Looking closer at the titles offered, I see there are none from the 70s yet. Hopefully there will be later collections that remedy that!

Also, it was only showing 50 Euros as order total. So, how much will the shipping be? I am hoping that I will find that out in the email, if I am going to get one. Still, how much did you guys pay for shipping?

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
Haven't seen the shipping cost yet. It will probably be Monday before I see a reply from the store.
In the previous bank transfer I did, the shipping cost came in the e-mail with IBAN and BIC numbers.

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
This turned out to be a pain in my butt now. Yes, I got an email from them today with all the necessary information for account to account balance transfer. Now, to do that from my bank account I have to go to a branch, my bank doesn't wire money internationally online. Also, I have to pay a $35 fee if I am sending USD. BTW, the shipping cost stated in the email is 18.00 Euros.
Well, I also tried to use Western Union; unfortunately, they don't recognize the seller and asked for CODE CITY. That information is not provided in the email. So, I guess I am doomed. I love World Cinema, but not that much. So, I am guessing that I am very much intending to cancel the order just by replying to the email.

Re: Slovak Cinema DVD/Blu-ray
I've been using transferwise.com for bank transfers, and the fees are much less than my bank. I think it was $3 for this one.
