Petzold's new film, JERICHOW, will be released in the U.S. by Cinema Guild (distributor of YELLA) this summer. For more info.

A link to JERICHOW's official site will be up there soon.

Here's your Friday afternoon on-my-way-out-the-door cut-and-paste from Blu-ray.com:
Cinema Guild Prepares for Blu-ray Releases
Posted March 6, 2009 02:36 PM by Josh Dreuth

The Cinema Guild has announced that they recently started a Home Video division and will soon begin to release Blu-ray movies, some from the New Yorker Home Video line. A leading distributor of documentary, foreign and independent film, The Cinema Guild was founded by over 40 years ago by award-winning producers Philip and Mary-Ann Hobel.

Some upcoming DVD releases (which will hopefully see Blu-ray release as well) include:

* Christian Petzold's “Yella”
* Alexander Sokurov's “Alexandra”
* Ellen Kuras's “The Betrayal” – 2009 Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature
* Jia Zhang'ke's “24 City”
* Christian Petzold's “Jerichow”
* Agnes Varda's “The Beaches of Agnes”
* “The Order of Myths” – Independent Spirit Award winner
* “The Unforeseen” – Independent Spirit Award winner
* “Primo Levi's Journey”
I believe the article is somewhat in error as New Yorker is the former distributor of some of Cinema Guild's titles; Cinema Guild does not appear to have purchased or licensed any New Yorker titles proper. Still, that's a hell of a line-up.

Ditto, and don't overlook among the big name auteur films The Order of Myths, a really terrific documentary, one of the best I saw last year.

I was wondering, have you also looked into digital distribution methods, eg. VOD or through i-Tunes or Amazon? This might be a way of getting this great material out to a wider audience.

We have. In fact, many of our titles are available on Cable VOD through Eurocinema and in the coming months, titles like THE UNFORESEEN, will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Hulu, etc.

Cinema Guild picks up 35 Shots of Rum.

Great work! I guess this means an Eng-subbed DVD release is now guaranteed.

It's being released theatrically by New Wave Films in the UK on July 10th and will presumably be released on their label by Verve Pictures.

Cripes, I hadn't noticed.

Looking at dates, Soi Cowboy & Shirin are being released in the next 3 months too. Great!

Yes, definitely! And the DVD will be as fully loaded with bonus material as possible.

Oh, is Soi Cowboy coming out in the US or the UK? Caught this again at the BangkokIFF and it really repays repeat viewing - surely the best film at Cannes '08 (with the caveat that I've yet to see Liverpool).

Sorry - UK, 12/06, from Network. The BFI (thanks, Geoff Andrew!) are releasing Shirin on 26/06.

Saw the AE yesterday. Saw Beaver's comparison too and the CG disc is not good, not by a long shot compared to the AE.

Given all your other stellar releases I'm very excited to see what you come up with for additional material on Eccentricities, especially as there will be a lot of space on that disc to fill. :wink:

Also, are these titles you've just listed positioned for a fall video release?

Thanks. We're still working on the bonus features, but the DVD will have an essay by James Quandt. Here's the final DVD cover:

All of them will be coming out in late summer and early fall: SWEETGRASS on August 3, SHIRIN on August 24, CINEVARDAPHOTO on August 31, ECCENTRICITIES on September 21.

That's a great lineup of films for this year. I'm also really pleased at the care Cinema Guild has been putting into their transfers and encoding. Can't wait to see SHIRIN!

I was very glad you included the lengthy interview with Claire Denis on the 35 SHOTS OF RUM DVD (although it's too bad the clips weren't included, presumably for rights reasons).
