Re: TV on DVD
Has anyone else heard of the shortlived Showtime series Fallen Angels? It was an anthology type show that had half hour episodes adapted from classic film noir writers and directed by the likes of Alfonso Cuaron, Peter Bogdanovich, Steven Soderbergh, Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise. There's a bit more on the show here and it's not going to come on an authorized DVD edition anytime soon. If anyone knows where I can get a rip of the VHS release please feel free to PM me.

The second season was released in the UK, divided into three volumes, titled Perfect Crimes. The DVDs are OOP, but they´re still cheap.Antoine Doinel wrote:Has anyone else heard of the shortlived Showtime series Fallen Angels? The retail price for the set is too high considering that people have been finding individual volumes for $3 at Big Lots.Fletch F. Fletch wrote:Cracker: The Complete Collection is coming out March 2009.

Re: TV on DVD
One of my favourites programmes of recent years, Three Men in a Boat, has just been quietly released in the UK. This is not an adaptation in the strictest sense; rather it's Rory McGrath, Griff Rhys Jones and Dara O'Briain retracing the book's steps as a loose travelogue while generally complaining, sniping and dicking about for the entire journey. It's very, very funny and garnered a lot of complaints on its original transmission from viewers not expecting three men whose combined "chemistry" make Gordon Ramsay look like Mr Rogers.

The Dana Carvey Show looks to be coming 3/3/09.
I recently rewatched this on Netflix Instant Viewing. While a lot of the political humor is pretty dated (lots of Bob Dole jokes here), the show itself is quite funny, and of course, you get an early look at Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, and Robert Smigel. Oh yeah, and Charlie Kaufman and Louis C.K. were writers on the show. Good stuff.

I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but ABC will finally be airing the final three episodes of Pushing Daisies over the next three Saturdays, starting tonight.

I assume you are referring to this and Parker Lewis Can't Lose.
Um, seriously though, everyone buy this so they will finally put out all the seasons of Larry Sanders.

Even though I'm pissed that the US sets have extras when the UK sets don't have any, I will definitely get the US sets whenever the price drops sufficiently.Mr Finch wrote:Deadwood is my all-time favourite series and I only own the UK sets of Season 1 and 2 and the Aussie set of Season 3, all of which had none of the extras from the US versions so I'll get this as soon as it goes down in price (the current retail price is, especially with just one bonus disc of material, exorbitant).
Although I'm in the middle of watching the third series, I confidently expect to be pronouncing 'Deadwood' as the greatest tv series I've seen, in some 45 years of tv watching, when I get to the final frame of the final episode.

Re: TV on DVD
I would pay a lot of money for this series. A lot.Antoine Doinel wrote:....and The Wonder Years!
Speaking of series, my order from TheStateOnDVD.com never shipped, and I was refunded after waiting for customer service to get back to me for more than a week. So I won't have it in hand until Tuesday to remark on its quality. But I've been watching clips on YouTube... I figured that this show was overrated due to the nostalgia value it holds for a lot of people... but it's really, really funny. To think, there are people over on the DVDTalk Forum talking about it "not aging well."

It's aged way better than say Mr Show has in far less time

Re: TV on DVD
Mr. Show is still fantastic as far as I'm concerned, but a lot of episodes require a healthy amount of skipping through sketches involving David Cross playing a screaming redneck.
The Monsters of Megaphone skit is still my favorite comedy skit of all time, though.
