I bought a pepper grinder and every time I use it I think of his bit about how he has no idea what the opposite of “fresh ground” pepper tastes like. “That’s some stale-ass pepper, Pierre!”

Hmm, with that in mind, perhaps I finally need to see Snatch.

It feels like so much of Tarantino is in this project. I hope it’s good.

I love the fact that you absolutely can't make sense of the Dyn-o-mite poster. What is he driving ? A car ? A plane ? A boat ?

I guess the building in the background got me disturbed because it made me feel the car is just so damn high in the sky.

Trailer
Open letter from Tarantino (which if you want to take a peek at Film Twitter (not sure why you'd want to subject yourself to that), has inflamed the ire of people who were just looking for an opportunity to complain about QT anyway):

Re: Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (Quentin Tarantino, 2019)
I should inquire: What is the title of this film? Tarantino calls it Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood above, the marketing image on the film's Twitter account and in the trailer calls it Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood, and then of course there's the ellipsis-free Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Has a consensus just not really emerged? I'm inclined to say that the tie goes to the director.

I suppose the trailer makes the Manson connection clearer. Really looking forward to what QT has crafted here.

I know I’ll regret asking, but why would people be upset over this letter? I really don’t get how you could turn on something as innocuous as this, but that’s the Internet for ya

Re: Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (Quentin Tarantino, 2019)
Spoiler culture is a whole new thing these days what with the MCU existing and such properties as GoT etc. so there's a priority placed on what is worth spoiling and who can be the first one to be accurate with providing that info.
That being said people are probably upset (confusingly so) because they don't think this is a movie where spoilers would matter because it doesn't belong to a "precious" nerd legacy where fan service is the key to being pleased. Plus with this film the only thing people like this may even care to know is if the Tate murders will be depicted because a) they can complain more while b) willfully ignoring what story the movie is actually trying to tell so they can achieve c) a modicum of attention. That's the internet these days.
Some thoughts on the trailer:
- Pacino seems to be phoning it in like he has been for years a la De Niro
- sounds like Robbie can only do that one east coast american accent. That's disappointing.
Otherwise pretty much everything else has me giddy. The actual top billed cast is super interesting: Qualley and Fanning who are two of the actors I'm most interested in seeing.

Maybe I'm being a little simpering here, but I think there's been enough really obnoxious replies to the people being jerks about this already, so I'll let you go find that, but this is as good a summary as I've seen of the discourse around this letter yesterday:domino harvey wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2019 12:56 pmI know I’ll regret asking, but why would people be upset over this letter? *Serious Movie People* disliking Tarantino for a whole host of usually indefensible but understandable enough reasons is nothing new, though, so. Can't say I'm too surprised.
Still not as bad as Busy Philipps' DOA attempt to #MeToo him the moment that Uma Thurman article dropped and the Polanski quotes were revived, when she revealed that she was asked by Mary Vernieu to wear flip flops and shorts to her audition for Death Proof - apparently even during the height of the frenzy that was much too low a bar to end Tarantino's career, surely to Philipps' disappointment.
Still funny stuff, though.Philipps wrote in a Twitter thread: "F*ck this guy. F*ck anyone who works with him. I'm embarrassed that I ever auditioned for him. F*ck him. That I f*cking showed up in SHORT SHORTS AND FLIP FLOPS as requested because I WANTED THE JOB. This business sucks and enables predators and F*CKING ENOUGH."

But didn't the Russo Bros just ask the same thing from their fans? I don't get why this is creating an uproar. I'm glad I'm not on Twitter tbh

Oh, critics and bloggers have absolutely no problem bending the knee to Marvel, their salaries depend on playing ball with those dozen movies each year and any laborious obligations that come with that

mfunk talks about Film Twitter being awful and he's right. It's an absolute dumpster fire of opinion that simultaneously demands that you respect people and then dunks on you for not sharing a certain opinion. It ranges from downright bad takes sometimes to outwardly malicious on occasion. Hell, when Spielberg had his little thing with Netflix some time ago people were outright saying he was a hack fraud and not any good now. I mean what?
