"Vomitive" is a pretty pretentious way to say "gross"

The one thing that turned me off about the trailer is that it looks like Trier is making Dillon as an action hero version of a serial killer. He not only kills by hand but by gun. It seems like incorporating too many different types of serial killers into one. The gun stuff seems cheap and really, polished as in a Hollywood movie trying too hard to push the edge of how disturbing this man must be. Maybe that's the point? But I also am guilty of having the expectation that Trier would portray a less comical killer.

LVT has never set foot on US soil, let alone Hollywood - and almost all of his past work has had a great sense of often self-deprecating humor

Yup, I'm aware of the first thing. Yeah, perhaps I was thinking too much that this would have the same tone as antichrist.

I was about to post the tweet that description came from. I question anyone saying they've "never seen anything like this at a film festival" - walkouts and intensely violent films are a constant at a ton of film festivals. Fuck, I saw A Serbian Film at a film festival. There is no way the von Trier will be as nauseating an experience as that film.

As long as most of those cases in the movie aren't by boring old guns.

You don't mutilate people in the way they're talking about with guns my dude. I can't imagine they'd highlight that tidbit if it was like the opening scene to Robocop.

I maybe wrote that out wrong. I was trying to express my satisfaction that it sounds like gun violence wont be a big part of the killer's methods.

ANYWAY.

The thing about the reactions is is that Lars isn't a new director. Every single one of them knew what they were getting into when they sat down. I agree with domino that all this is really going to do is make for great marketing material. I mean one critic, Robbie Collin said this film feels like a suicide note. Can't wait for that to be emblazoned on the poster in neon.

I fully agree. There was no way this wasn't going to get some good promotion. And yes, 1000000% I don't understand what there is to complain about in terms of depciting violence when it's a 1) Lars von Trier film 2) about a serial killer.

Seems like people want this to get recognition.

This article goes into more detail regarding the scene that caused the walkouts. Spoilers obviously.

There's been no shortage of resurgence in dead kids in media (It, Stranger Things) so this must be pretty violent.

Alright I'm ready for actual reviews now. Hopefully someone talks about the digital effects which I read were "complicated".

And any time you’re not sitting in a screening, you’re either literally running to one or standing in line to get into one. I hate film festivals.

Read a tweet earlier where some woman..

SpoilerShow
who walked out said she found the film disgusting because watching children get killed is neither entertaining or art.
But who said it was either one in regards to this film? I can easily see her statement being turned against her: "why did you think it would or could be either?"
