Re: The Hunt (Craig Zobel, TBD)
I appreciate that, and no worries. Like you, I didn’t like it much either and am unlikely to revisit it one way or the other! Though a version with Andy Griffith perhaps giving a more sympathetic/folksy turn does sound like an intriguingly different approach to this material, this kinda Deadliest Game riffing is rarely a compelling narrative even when done wellflyonthewall2983 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 4:35 pmI could have worded that a bit more like an actual question than a challenge, so I apologize.
More a question because I haven't seen this movie in awhile and don't remember liking it very much at all, and remember not taking that much away from his performance.
Edit: Right after posting this, I did some Googling and discovered that this was based on a novel, that was previously adapted into a TV movie, with Andy Griffith playing Douglas' character.

Re: The Hunt (Craig Zobel, TBD)
Blum admits to marketing mistakes. I already commented on how their hands were tied in marketing and THR commented on that too. Its from the time they renamed it from Red State v Blue State.
I just think there is no good way to market this film. America today is engulfed in an inferno of partisan hatred.
I am a marketer and I wouldn't want to touch this movie with a 10-foot pole.
I ultimately think theatrical is not the right avenue for such content. I think it is better dumped on some streaming platform where there is less scrutiny.

Oh, good, so it means absolutely nothing of substance.

Ah yes, the ol’ “let’s unify people via a controversial and off-putting premise” trick. Surprised it failed here, that usually works so well.

I'm assuming this movie has already been made, correct?
So will it be released directly to physcial media or never seen by the public?

I'm glad this is getting a release. I really rated Compliance and the twist in the set-up really appeals.

That isn't the twist, it's the premise, right?
There is apparently an actual twist in the movie.

Re: The Hunt (Craig Zobel, 2020)
Funny thing, I did quickly read through the first 2 pages here (clearly I didn't look at the poster or above) and wasn't able to find it on IMDB upon searching for "The Hunt." I think I was just overly excited about seeing Emma Roberts and Hilary Swank, with the latter in a seemingly villainous role. I just now did another search under H. Swank and it does come up as post-production 2020/II.domino harvey wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 2:38 pmEven poor people could read DarkImbecile's link or look at the poster and help themselves to an answer to that if they wanted to
My offense was egregious and likewise should be punished with disparaging comments. Thank you.

I'm driving a stick shift. We are on a hill. Do you really want to be that close to me to be reading this?
I full well know the rules of the forum and honestly welcome criticism, as long as its constructive. I made a mistake and got the hammer. Touche.
I'm surprised Swank would accept this sort of role. Is she that desperate now for roles? Are we to assume she's washed up and has no more Oscar worthy acting acumen left?

Re: The Hunt (Craig Zobel, 2020)
I imagine Swank can easily get hired to anchor low budget movies on name recognition while she waits for auteurs to throw her a bone (like Logan Lucky et al), but despite her twin wins, I don’t think she’s ever really been part of the A List, though she and the industry gave it a couple shots a while ago

Blumhouse generally makes low budget, very successful horror films. Why would an actor not accept this role?cpetrizzi wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 7:38 pmI'm driving a stick shift. We are on a hill. Do you really want to be that close to me to be reading this?

Re: The Hunt (Craig Zobel, 2020)
The majority of those movies are mediocre at best, very often tepidly received, and successful only thanks to their extremely low budget that allows a $20m gross to be vastly enough already.thirtyframesasecond wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 4:07 amBlumhouse generally makes low budget, very successful horror films. Out of 65 movies reviewed on Metacritic, only 18 have a 60+ score, and many of those aren't horror movies. On contrary, the bottom ones almost all are horror movies.
I'd totally understand how some actors would choose to avoid these. But I guess everyone has to pay their taxes.

Re: The Hunt (Craig Zobel, 2020)
I guess you're right; even Jodie Foster has gone there with a movie like Elysium.
I'm a huge Swank fan and am sure she'll hit all the right notes with this one. I was also pleasantly surprised to see other recognizable actors like Madigan, Roberts, Hartley, and W. Duvall. So obviously they don't feel like this movie is beneath them if they accepted the roles. Maybe they were drawn to political statements intended by the script. Maybe they did need to pay their taxes like all of us.
And I'm not even downing the movie! I'm all for a nice fun gore-fest once in a while. I was simply surprised to see this is where Swank ended up.
Additionally, on IMDB she's slated for "Fatale" on October 9, 2020. Tag line is: "a married man is tricked into a murder scheme by a female police detective." Maybe she has broken bad!

Even Ethan Hawke was in the likes of Sinister and The Purge at the time he was working with Linklater and Pawlikowski.

Re: The Hunt (Craig Zobel, 2020)
To be fair, you can't really evaluate the horror genre based on those sites as most critics (even ones I love) aren't very friendly to the genre. Neither of Happy Death Day films even cracked 60 which is a little ridiculous.
