Oh, unfortunately I'm well aware, so I'd need to look for one that's in English to even consider going up there (for this... LQ and I still have gone up to Montreal around three times a year for over a decade now and wouldn't resist a trip even if Tenet wasn't in the cards)Rayon Vert wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 4:38 pmIn the larger Montreal region, there’s as many English screenings as dubbed French so no need for subtitles!

For sure there will be one, meaning several. I live on the south shore which is more predominantly French but even here there’s more original English screenings of movies than French dubbed ones.

The likelihood of the US-Canada border opening at any juncture before, at the very earliest, the presidential election, is almost nil. They are more than likely going to just continue with the monthly postponements until at least that point, and perhaps through the rest of 2020 itself.

Indiewire: When ‘Tenet’ Opens on September 3, Theaters Will Confront Their Future
The pressure is immense now on this film to get at least the same mostly positive reactions as his other films or better. Hopefully for theater owners and Nolan supporters, it will. But with the added pressure of the first tentpole opening during the pandemic, Warner can ill afford for this to turn out to be a misfire.

I think critics will be kinder to it because of the enviornment. Expect the inevitable disserations on how the movie is "timely" and a "reflection of our times" or something like this from our hack film critics.
But I appreciate the decesion. At some point you have to decide. It's a free country. People as long as they comply with laws can choose to do with their lives and time as they wish. And so will be the case here.

I've been following this whole mess and all I can say for now is that this is a tremendously dumb move on everyone's part.

That is a flaw in the law and not the people right? People can follow laws and be vigilant and careful. What more can people do.

Oh, you're totally right. 100% wishful thinking on my part, would love to have a small piece of normalcy back.Cash Flagg wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 5:53 pmThe likelihood of the US-Canada border opening at any juncture before, at the very earliest, the presidential election, is almost nil. The Park in Vancouver is also 70mm-equipped. The number goes up further if you include IMAX 15/70 venues.
Oh, that's great. I was also forgetting about the IMAX 15/70 at the science museum in Victoria.

Re: Tenet (Christopher Nolan, 2020)
"What more can people do" gives the impression that people are already doing everything they can to contain the spread of the virus. When I see Americans going to theme parks, eating at restaurants or even refusing to wear masks at public spaces, I get the impression that they could be doing a little more.
Apparently, watching Nolan's movie on a theater will be yet another example of "exercising personal freedom."

The last one would be breaking the law (based on state) the first 2 are decisions by the state governments. The government gets the blame for bad decisions. Not people.

Augh, Libertarians are always whinning about having the government out of things and the one time they're giving it to you you point fingers at them for citizens dropping the ball on responsibility. Do you want a nanny state or not?

Is the issue wanting a nanny state or needing one (though there is quite a wide array between, sau, the US State and a nanny state) ?
Because mankind's history tend to show that being proactive at taking responsabilities that might restrict our hedonistic lifestyles but could nevertheless save lives (including ours) isn't really our thing.
(Rhetorical question though : the current figures in the US tend to answer this question about what happens when you let people handle this kind of things)

I agree with. There was this great article recently titled something like, "America is too Libertarian to fight Covid."

Spoilers for this are beginning to leak, so be careful on larger social media platforms (especially Twitter from what I understand) if you want to see this unspoiled in the unspecified near(?) future

Who could have ever foreseen this. Mark my words: this film will be ruined for all of us long before we ever get to see it thanks to this brilliant rollout

From what I've heard, Nolan is the sole reason why the film hasn't been pushed to 2021, so we can all thank him for that

I mean, it's not Nolan's fault that people on social media are shitty and spoil movies, and I think it's a slippery slope when we hold an artist accountable for others' behaviors in allocating the information of their art. But we can still add another reason to the list of why this year sucks.

The worldwide release for this is still, somehow, going ahead at this point in time - theaters in Europe are selling advance tickets, and Australian theaters are even selling tickets for sneak preview showings

Re: Tenet (Christopher Nolan, 2020)
Our local cinema here is prebooking tickets from the 26th - and marking the film as a 15. I'd be amazed if this wasn't a 12a and can't seen that the BBFC rating has been officially given out yet. The trailers and the IMAX preview were all 12a, has anyone seen anything to suggest that this will be a 15 in the UK?
Update: They've now amended the certificate to a 12a, so who knows. Admittedly they have such a poor record with accurate coming-soon information we take it with a pinch of salt, but the fact that they've change it suggests that either the distributor has let them know the (expected) rating or that they've checked the BBFC and are taking the ratings for the trailers. Or that they've let the intern loose...

Re: Tenet (Christopher Nolan, 2020)
First reactions are out.
BEWARE clicking on the link above. While there is no actual spoiler in the reactions (there is nothing at all about the story or plot or characters), it does put into words some things which you can deduce from the trailer. So while a few words weren't spoilers to me, they might be for someone who hasn't seen the trailers. And while seeing something in a trailer is fine, seeing the same thing articulated in words might seem like horrifying spoilers to some.
With that said, the reactions are promising, specially this bit -
PS: I'd also say that concerns about the movie being too confusing to follow are laid to bed. I never once understood that critique (or rather disguised praise) of Nolan movies. There is not a single movie of his that I had to watch twice to fully follow it.

This is music to my ears specially with regards to the discussion that was had in the Inception thread about the near constant exposition in that film.there isn’t as much exposition

I don't know, I'd have loved to have had more context about why those people were fighting each other in that Dunkirk movie.
