Apparently the release of Ludwig includes a promotional booklet which will mention a few upcoming Academy titles, not yet revealed! Keep an eye out, those who've pre-ordered it.

Only the US release, so it'll be several weeks until we hear of it (as it was delayed to 4/11).

From Fran Simeoni's Twitter:
And on being asked about Mario BavaI think our Q4 this year may well give some people a heart attack. Really mental (i.e. GOOD!) stuff coming
The time to speculate is now!yes we have some more Bava. There I dropped the ball...

That same round of tweets mentions an Academy "boxsets aplenty."

He also mentions that Academy will "beef up" over the Summer, which is a similarly exciting prospect considering we're just now reaching the period where we'll be receiving the benefits of the strong sales for Yoshida finally catching up with their acquisitions. Also that they still haven't got any Silent releases in the works but that's understandable as I think most would agree that if there's one department MoC still does better than anyone else it's their Silents.

I hope that Preston Sturges box still materializes. Boxed sets seem to get a lot more attention than individual releases, especially now, and a boxed set like that would surely be eye catching.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a Raoul Ruiz boxset with a 4k resto of City of Pirates!

I just asked Simeoni on Twitter if there was any chance of a Von Sternberg box at Paramount and he said they licensed the films years ago but the masters were dreadful, so not forthcoming.

Re: Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conject
A poster at Blu-Ray.com says that a booklet with one of the new Academy releases confirms Robert Aldrich's The Big Knife and also
Aldrich - The Big Knife
Fellini - If they're not singling him out for a US release of Spirits of the Dead, this would have to be Orchestra Rehearsal, Intervista or The Voice of the Moon
Franju - Spotlight on a Murderer (already announced)
Gremillon - Pattes Blanches and Gueule d'Amour have been released on Blu-Ray in France (the former with English subs), with L'Amour d'une femme also having been recently restored
Lewis - Terror in a Texas Town?
Olmi - Legend of the Holy Drinker?
Petri - Probably referring to the now-out Property is No Longer a Theft
Rosi - Three Brothers (already announced)
Rossellini - I'm not aware of any recent restorations that haven't been released in either/both the US or the UK.
Wilder - A Foreign Affair? Mauvaise Graine?
Forthcoming releases include films by Robert Aldrich, Federico Fellini, Georges Franju, Jean Gremillon, Joseph H Lewis, Ermanno Olmi, Elio Petri, Francesco Rosi, Roberto Rossellini, Billy Wilder, Kiju Yoshida and more!

Some of your suggestions don't really pass an Occum's Razor test.
Rossellini could be something like Della Rovere, Olmi Clogs and for Fellini I'd suggest Amarcord or La strada is more likely.

These are for US releases. Anything released by Criterion is not going to happen.

La Strada coming from StudioCanal in June, so it's not that.TMDaines wrote:Some of your suggestions don't really pass an Occum's Razor test.

An upgrade of Della Rovere would make sense but it'd have to be UK-only, right?

We know Irma la Douce is with a non-TT or Kino label, but it never occurred to me it might be Arrow!

Re: Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conject
If people are finding this advertisement in copies of Ludwig and Cinema Paradiso, it's probably being included in all the launch titles this month. If that's the case, it doesn't make sense for the Petri to just be referring to Property is No Longer a Theft. I suspect they night have the 2 MGM titles: We Still Kill the Old Way and A Quiet Day in the Country.
On the Arrow Video side of things, someone who claims inside knowledge has said that Arrow's picked up Roger Corman's Bucket of Blood from MGM. MrLime also said another label has Fritz the Cat. I supsect it's Arrow.

I remember reading a few years ago that a restoration of La petite Lise was planned by Pathe. Did it happen?

Yes indeed, it was planned as Pathé put an embargo on it during the Grémillon retros of a couple or so years back. However it has been ominously quiet ever since, more's the pityCalvin wrote:I remember reading a few years ago that a restoration of La petite Lise was planned by Pathe. Did it happen?

Following a recent tweet by Fran Simeoni about 'boxsets aplenty' my money's on a Gremillon boxset.

It was posted in this forum in 2014 that TT had 2 Wilder films. Fortune Cookie coming in April, so should be one more from TT.domino harvey wrote:We know Irma la Douce is with a non-TT or Kino label, but it never occurred to me it might be Arrow!
