I already read that - if that's what they meant, then great.swo17 wrote:This, for starters.doc mccoy wrote:Didn't Arrow over a year ago or so write that, while the Academy line was on hiatus, it was working on 7 HD French restorations? In any case, are there any French releases in the pipeline?
But anyway, I'd love to see them put out blus of The Sorrow and the Pity, Le Samourai and La maman et la putain.
Also, as they license masters from Universal, Day of the Jackal please.

Arrow Wish List
Any Aleksei German film would make a great future Academy release but, considering his low output, a box set would be even better. Also, some Québécois cinema - I don't think even Mon oncle Antoine has a UK release.

In terms of neglected Russian masters, I'd like to add in German Jr (Paper Soldier and The Last Train are films that richly deserve a higher profile), Alexey Balabanov (Morphia!), Lidia Bobrova (In That Country is an incredible film) and Kira Bloody Muratova.Calvin wrote:Any Aleksei German film would make a great future Academy release but, considering his low output, a box set would be even better.

Some Masumura would be nice, especially Blind Beast and Red Angel.

Re: Arrow Wish List
Aleksei Balabanov would be an interesting one, as he straddles both the arthouse and cult/trash worlds in a similar way to Walerian Borowczyk. I'd dearly love to see Of Freaks and Men in HD - the old Tartan DVD was a sad disappointment after two 35mm screenings.zedz wrote:In terms of neglected Russian masters, I'd like to add in German Jr (Paper Soldier and The Last Train are films that richly deserve a higher profile), Alexey Balabanov (Morphia!), Lidia Bobrova (In That Country is an incredible film) and Kira Bloody Muratova.
In fact, double bills of that and Morphia and Cargo 200/The Stoker would go very well together, although I think we're (even more) in the realms of wild fantasy here!
(I really fancied watching The Stoker again the other night, tried to find my DVD screener, and then realised I'd reviewed it off a password-protected and now deactivated Vimeo stream. Oh well.)

Re: Arrow Wish List
There are two great Fred Schepisi films The Devil's Playground and The Chant of Jimmie Bllacksmith which have never had a UK DVD release. It would be nice if Arrow considered them their sort of thing. It would make a lot of people happy to see them in top quality Blu-rays.

Re: Arrow Wish List
It certainly would me! The UK VHS releases of Jimmie Blacksmith were pan-and-scan and a shortened version.tojoed wrote:There are two great Fred Schepisi films The Devil's Playground and The Chant of Jimmie Bllacksmith which have never had a UK DVD release. I wish Arrow can get their hands on the some of Bela Tarr's films. I would love to see what James can do with Satantango and Damnation. I know this is probably wishful thinking because AE has these films. On this side of the pond there is no hope of upgrades being that these are with Facets.

I know the Borowczyk project will remain the focus for some time, but I would gladly blow my life's savings if Edward Yang were the next pick for an Arrow Kickstarter...

Re: Arrow Wish List
I've banged the drum for them repeatedly, but James White restorations of Philip Ridley's The Reflecting Skin (available to license through The Works Media Group) and The Passion Of Darkly Noon (which still seems to be stuck with Entertainment, who co-produced it) would be absolutely drool-worthy - and very necessary given what's available for both of them at the moment! (i.e. not much)

Re: Arrow Wish List
Very much seconded on the Edward Yang and Philip Ridley (what other films feature images like frog popping or gigantic shoes floating down a river?) suggestions!
The Passion of Darkly Noon also has this actress called Ashley Judd in it, who I've been hearing a lot about recently.
