Nollywood / Nigerian movies - can anyone recommend any?

#1 Post by Jeff Bannow » Mon May 07, 2012 1:44 pm

Watched the documentary Nollywood Babylon recently, and am really keen to see some actual Nollywood / Nigerian movies. I can find a wide selection of titles on DVD / VCD for very reasonable prices, but I'm not sure which titles are worth my time.

Can anyone here recommend where to start, or some websites with information? I'm at a loss so far.

No one?

I tracked down Osoufia in London 1 & 2. That's a place to start at least.

When in doubt, go to Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_films" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That lists about two dozen Nigerian films from this millennium.

I clicked on the link to one film -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osuofia_in_London and the sources lead to a few promising articles on Nollywood.
I only read this one CSMonitor piece http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/A ... wood-films" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But I think if you follow the links to the films and then follow up on the source references, you'll gather a good deal of info and leads.
Let us know if you find any gems.

Btw, I love this photo where the young woman's dress blends right in with the colorful dvd covers. At first I assumed it was a still from a Nollywood film. Terrific photo.
