Huh. Shipping was free to the U.S. so I assumed it would be the same everywhere else.

Re: Kiju Yoshida: Love + Anarchism
Considering the price and the release date, I still jumped on this title within minutes. I'm quite impressed that Arrow made it dual-format. While I was hoping for more than three titles, it's really made up by both cuts of E+M. I hope they have Desser on the extras or new interviews with Yoshida.

My guess is they waive shipping charges outside Europe in lieu of charging you full VAT (my assumption must be correct, unless folks where charged less than 45GBP)

Re: Kiju Yoshida: Love + Anarchism
Similarly £3 for France but joyful news when I ordered I found I had £15 worth of glory points from a previous order.
I know this of no consequence to anyone else but the set for £29 is something to celebrate.

I was waiting for something to put with my Videodrome order in order to reach £50 so that fitted.
However, I read a week ago about a bug concerning shipping fees which was : if you make an order with only one product, you get free shipping even if it's less than £50. I tried, but it didn't work for a shipping to France.

Re: Kiju Yoshida: Love + Anarchism
A very exciting release, and I hope it gets enough support to justify further Arrow Yoshidas (hey, I'd even be happy for all of them to be packaged into dubious 'trilogies' like these three if it'll get them out there). I'm particularly pleased to see Heroic Purgatory included, as that was probably the hardest film to follow with my halting French on the previous release. The potential extras for these films are particularly mouth-watering, since the films invite so much discussion on a formal level as well as having a ton of historical and cultural context that can be unpacked. The Yoshida intros from the French discs are extremely valuable but very brief.

Arrow have said on Facebook that if the set sells out and further pressings of the films are thus required, they will be separate DVDs only. So unlike the Boro set, if you want these on Blu-ray, you must not wait.

Re: Kiju Yoshida: Love + Anarchism
Full specs and art:
UK Release Date: 19th October 2015
Region: ABC/Free
The work of Kiju Yoshida is one of Japanese cinema’s obscure pleasures. A contemporary of Nagisa Oshima (Death by Hanging, In the Realm of the Senses) and Masahiro Shinoda (Pale Flower, Assassination), Yoshida started out as an assistant to Keisuke Kinoshita before making his directorial debut at age 27. In the decades that followed he produced more than 20 features and documentaries, yet each and every one has proven difficult to see in the English-speaking world.
This collection brings together three works from the late sixties and early seventies, a loose trilogy united by their radical politics and an even more radical shooting style. Eros + Massacre, presented here in both its 169-minute theatrical version and the full-length 220-minute director’s cut, tells the parallel stories of early 20th-century anarchist (and free love advocate) Sakae Osugi and a pair of student activists. Their stories interact and intertwine, resulting in a complex, rewarding work that is arguably Yoshida’s masterpiece.
Heroic Purgatory pushes the dazzling cinematic language of Eros + Massacre even further, presenting a bleak but dreamlike investigation into the political discourses taking place in early seventies Japan. Coup d’état returns to the past for a biopic of Ikki Kita, the right-wing extremist who sought to overthrow the government in 1936. Yoshida considered the film to be the culmination of his work, promptly retiring from feature filmmaking following its completion.

I thought for sure they'd raise it up from Early Bird with the proper reveal so I jumped on it a few weeks ago. Good on them for waiting a bit further (anything that gets the set to sell, I suppose). This just made me a bit more crazy ridiculous excited for it. Should be astounding.

Very, very cool - and beautiful artwork. For anyone interested in Yoshida I recommend seeking out that Stegewerns book, there's a good interview plus writings by Hasumi Shigehiko, Chris Fujiwara and others. Found mine at the Norwegian Film Institute years ago, apparently they still have it in stock (the book itself is 100% English-language).

Yeah those are really the deal sealer... But it looks like they are "scene-select" commentaries, which I hope won't be too brief!

Re: Kiju Yoshida: Love + Anarchism
Let me offer the set's producer a kidney or a first-born! Wow, I thought Desser alone would be enough but Standish and Stegewerns are a great addition. I don't feel so bad about having paid for the set already. I almost feel like I should buy a second. What gorgeous design, too. This is already release of the year for me.

For such a fantastic set and for the sake of completeness, I urge Arrow to please consider adding the original trailer for Eros+Massacre:

Re: Kiju Yoshida: Love + Anarchism
I asked Arrow why it wasn't included and they said that they "were only supplied trailers for Heroic [Purgatory] and Coup d'etat". I agree that they should try and get a hold of Eros', for completeness' sake.Lino wrote:For such a fantastic set and for the sake of completeness, I urge Arrow to please consider adding the original trailer for Eros+Massacre:
