Re: Worst DVD Covers...ever! (Part 4)
I mean the Pickle Rick shit got so bad people were tattooing it on themselves. They'd have been nuts not to have this front and center. It's awful and they know it. Whether that works for you or not though that's up to you.

I like Rick and Morty too but I don't mention it outside of closed groups (Y'all have certainly roasted me in good faith here but you've never ever been mean.) because some of the fans can be so awful.swo17 wrote:That episode is amazing though

You must be crazy. I feel like that cover is indeed a big joke, the series and creators are too self aware for it not to bemfunk9786 wrote:The show? Yeah, maybe.

I realize I'm not as brilliant as Rick or his viewers, but I was just saying in my own form of jest that it's not a very good show.dda1996a wrote:You must be crazy. Oh I perfectly understood your jest, I was just saying that having at first been a skeptic I found the series absolutely brilliant, even if at first it appears juvenile and silly.

I know, I know - this and the show about the sad horse are going to change my life. I hear enough of it from my friends.

Never said change your life. This will be the last I write as this is the wrong forum, but I'm the type of person who revolts when the popular critical reception of something is high, as my taste is usually esoteric and contrary to popular reception (for the most part) but I consistently found the series to get better, much so in the back ends of seasons 1&2

Looks like I'm the only one who thinks Rick & Morty first 2 seasons were way better than the over-rated third one.

Re: Worst DVD Covers...ever! (Part 4)
I don't find my tastes to be very esoteric at all, I just haven't liked what I've seen of the show, and irrationally resent the Kevin Smith-ification of Dan Harmon to the point that Community was plenty of his sensibility for me to feel satiated for the rest of my daysdda1996a wrote:Never said change your life. No one should have to deal with the horror of having to watch Tusk (I assume).

Kevin Smith could wish he made something as deeply resonant as this. I dunno the last couple episodes I've seen have been both funny and philosophically enriched.

I was not comparing the two's work, I was comparing the dorky cult and inflated reverence around them.

Re: Rick and Morty
You keep responding with a thought that betrays a partial misunderstanding of what I initially said, and then saying you understood my point all along. There's a certain whiplash effect to it. Is this something Rick does a lot in the show or something?

Re: Rick and Morty
It's just my way if thinking I guess. Anyway how far did you get into this? The pilot is by far the worst episode

Re: Rick and Morty
Give me a good reason to watch past the pilot. Does it get significantly better than this, or is this it?

Re: Rick and Morty
The episodes are a little over twenty minutes my dude so it's not exactly a major time investment. Watch a few more. They start even referencing Cronenberg and stuff later on. I don't think there's a word for what exactly Rick and Morty is from a stlylistic standpoint but it obviously bothered mfunk enough to not watch anymore but I'd encourage you to watch a few more episodes just to get a better feel. I mean surely no one here watches twenty minutes of a film and decides to shut it off?denti alligator wrote:Give me a good reason to watch past the pilot. Jennifer Lawrence shut off Phantom Thread after three minutes.

The Pilot is a weak episode, I would say the show progressively gets better as it goes

Re: Rick and Morty
If you like mean dark humor that also has psychologically introspectove characters, with a dose of playing with its own universe, Rick & Morty is pretty good at this.
The pilot is quite flat in comparison, but it plays often very well with the concepts it uses in some episodes, and in the end, it makes for a very good show, though again, I dont get the hype for the 3rd season and the overall "best show ever" acclamation of its fan base.
It's often good, sometimes very good, yes, but does it deserve to be the phenomenon it has become ? I'm not sure.

Re: Rick and Morty
I do have to say that while I don't watch too much TV, this is consistently reaching that special balance for me between complex characters, brilliant world building, funny and quotable humor and underneath a mixture between optimism and nihilism that I don't usually find in other shows. Wouldn't call this the best thing I've ever seen, but it is among my favorite TV shows

Re: Rick and Morty
I agree, it does offer a good balance between all these elements, making it at least a good show to watch and follow.
An other "similar" animated show I had lots of pleasure to watch was Archer, but unfortunately, the latest season (the 7th) was absolutely awful.

How good is Bojack Horseman? It keeps getting compared and recommended to R&M fans
