Under The Dome has some promise. I haven't read the book but I'm encouraged that Stephen King is hands-on and is also letting the show take it's own course away from his story.

Meanwhile, the summer's other Lord-of-the-Flies-inspired show, Siberia, is extremely stupid. Every stock reality show character and every reality show cliche is trotted out BUT WITH A TWIST! Something is... OUT THERE...

Actually, it might be fun to watch the show just to see each and every one of these loathsome characters meet a grisly demise. I mean, what else am I going to watch between two hours of American Ninja Warrior and the local news?

Another Steve, one of my favorite living writers, Steven Millhauser, wrote a dome story too ("The Dome"), a concise little gem that takes considerably less of your life to finish from a collection called Dangerous Laughter that everybody ought to have. You can listen to Alec Baldwin reading it to you here.

The first two episodes had way too much CBS for me so I haven't gone back.
