Transfering Audio Commentaries to MP3s

#1 Post by manicsounds » Tue Feb 17, 2009 8:00 am

Until recently, I usually recorded audio commentaries of DVDs to good-ol' MiniDisc via 1 speed recording, and listening to it working out, or by commute.

Finally, my MD player went completely bust, and I was thinking of doing the same thing via MP3. I don't have a portable MP3 player as of yet.

Do any of you listen by this method, and if you do, what's the easiest way of transfering audio files? Or is the only way the old fashioned analog route? Do any MP3 players record by a line-in jack directly to the player?

I've ripped DVD audio with DVD Decrypter before but it's been long enough that I wouldn't want to mislead you by giving vague advice. So here's a step-by-step that uses basically the same program(s).

How to rip DVD audio commentaries.

Since the last post, I listened to almost all DVD commentaries via MP3, but since I upgraded to Blu-ray and I don't have a BD-Rom drive, I can't rip commentaries directly. I had to go back to the old fashioned method of playing the disc, and outputting the audio directly to the computer and use an audio editing software to transfer to MP3. So a 2-hour commentary will take 2 hours to record. What does everyone else do?

You've answered your own question: use a Blu-ray drive!

And that's what I finally got. My old PC died, so I got a new one with a BD drive. Makes things a lot easier. Surprised that the Disney Blu-rays are not difficult to rip like the Disney DVDs are. Same with Arrow.

That's the program I use. Works for Blu-rays as well. It's not a free program, but it's worth it.
