WILL IT SNOW FOR CHRISTMAS? (DVD + Blu-ray)
Directed by Sandrine Veysset

Set on a farm in Southern France, a woman and her seven children have a hard life, one which is worsened by the farms owner and father of the children, who treats them as his personal property. Used as expendable free labour and unable to leave, it is only the woman's love for her children and her unwavering strength that prevent her family from falling apart.

Director Sandrine Veysset's remarkable debut film won a César upon its release and has been compared to the work of Maurice Pialat (À nos amours) and Ken Loach (I, Daniel Blake). Exquisitely shot by cinematographer Hélène Louvart (The Beaches of Agnès), the film's ability to never become over-sentimental, despite its subject, are a testament to its quality.

Special features

Tout en liberté (2015, 31 mins): Interview with director Sandrine Veysset and Cinematographer Hélène Louvart
Terre-Mère-Amour (2015, 15 mins): Interview with actress Dominique Reymond
Fully illustrated booklet with a new writing on the film, and full film credits

Great news. Saw it twice in the theaters. Had given up hope of seeing it again, having prematurely jettisoned the VHS tape 15 [?] years ago thinking a DVD would surely soon materialize.

Will it Snow for Christmas?
Directed by Sandrine Veysset

BFI Dual Format Edition (Blu-ray/DVD) release on 20 November 2017

Sandrine Veysset’s remarkable debut film won a César and has been compared to the work of Maurice Pialat (À nos amours) and Ken Loach (I, Daniel Blake). Exquisitely shot by cinematographer Hélène Louvart (The Beaches of Agnès), the film evokes the harsh realities of daily farming life as well as the magic and innocence of childhood without ever becoming over-sentimental.

Now restored and scanned to 4K, Will it Snow for Christmas? will be released on DVD and Blu-ray for the first time in the UK by the BFI on 20 November. Special features include cast and crew interviews.

On a Provençal farm, a protective and devoted mother (Dominique Reymond) raises her seven illegitimate children. Their father is the farm’s owner (Daniel Duval), an authoritarian egotist who treats the family as his personal property to be used as cheap labour. Unable to leave, it is only the mother’s love for her children and unwavering strength that prevent the family from falling apart.

Will it Snow for Christmas? is released as part of Woman with a Movie Camera, the BFI’s ongoing celebration of women’s contribution to film that has a regular screening slot at BFI Southbank and a range of films on BFI Player.
