Flipside Master List

#1 Post by MichaelB » Mon Jul 18, 2011 12:39 pm

Although there are only 45 actual discs (not counting the Kim Newman sampler), the BFI Flipside series now features nearly 150 films, many of which are at least as interesting as the main feature.

So I thought I'd compile a definitive index of every Flipside title for reference purposes. Click on the Flipside spine numbers to go to the dedicated thread about each individual release.

FYI: “Flipside #001 - The Bed Sitting Room” is now officially a deleted title. BFI was unable to renegotiate the rights.

Note also that any future releases of Privilege are likely to be lacking the two short Peter Watkins films currently on the disk, also because of rights issues.

I've run into my first booklet-less Flipside release. I just received what must be a second printing of Flipside 039: Legend of the Witches / Secret Rites. The First Printing had an illustrated booklet containing essays by Christina Oakley Harrington, publisher and expert on the occult Mark Pilkington, film lecturer Dr Adrian Smith, writer Rob Young and authors of The Bodies Beneath, Vic Pratt and William Fowler. It no longer ships with the booklet.

That's a massive bummer. I only discovered this recently via a sci-fi program at MoMA (this 2017 screening to be precise) and bought the BFI BD the next day. I still haven't seen Petulia as I'm holding out for a theatrical screening or good HD presentation somewhere, but I would hold this up as one of Lester's very best films - my favorite next to A Hard Day's Night.
