How long does this sale last? I'm hoping they'll honor the discount price even they're unable to ship it until the after the end of the sale, as long as one placed his or her order while the sale was officially in effect.

Amazon's pretty good about that sort of thing, and if the system doesn't do it automatically and you complain to them they'll almost always just do whatever you want them to do.

Got a shipping notice from Amazon. Says it's shipped via Ensenda. I've not heard of this service before - anyone with any experience with it?

Well, that sucks, especially since I live in an apartment building. Guess I have a Front Step Special coming up at some indeterminate date.

Thanks for the research, dom.

To follow up on Ensenda, for those wary Amazon customers out there:

1) Estimated delivery was Satuday, April 30. Tracking shows delivery attempted that day @ 12:02 (presumably Pacific time). It appears there actually was a delivery attempt at that time, judging by the caller ID on my phone, but I was not home. No delivery tag left.

2) Another delivery attempt 5/1 - Sunday - at 7:44 AM. No call, no tag.

3) Delivery 5/2 at 3:21 PM. Again, not home, although I had waited around most of the day for delivery. Package not signed for, released by driver in "mail room". Package nowhere to be found, I check building office, lobby, etc. Nothing. So I call Ensenda to ask, and get the now-familiar (to judge by Amazon user feedback here) story of "can't reach the driver right now, but he must have judged that it was safe to just leave it."

Argh.

Ugh... I will happily give Amazon the $.30 they save on each of my orders if they stop using these shitty delivery services.

New update: customer service finally got in touch with driver (after I called back), and he left it in the common area. Customer service says they've been dealing with these issues "for a while", and that drivers are told not to leave packages in common areas, "but sometimes they do anyway."

Awesome.

What the hell is Ensenda? It sounds like the name of a new tapas bar you'd read about in your city's free weekly indie paper.

I ordered from the Amazon sale on 4/26. BD's of Kes, White Material, Blow Out and The Red Circle. Still not even a shipping confirmation.

Those are all out of stock, so that's not unusual.

I ordered Eclipse Series 5 - Late Ozu during the most recent B&N 50% off sale. It was scheduled to ship on August 17 but then I got a message saying the order was delayed, quickly followed by a cancellation. I was curious and B&N on the website lists the product but says 3-5 weeks to ship. I then checked Amazon to see what their situation was and it says they have only 1 left in stock. Usually, such a warning is accompanied by a reassurance that more are on their way, but this is curiously not the case with Late Ozu. This couldn't possibly be going out of print, could it?

it could mean that the initial print run of late ozu has finally sold out and criterion will have to press it again.

Does anyone have suggestions about replacing missing Criterion booklets. I ordered a couple titles in the recent 50% off sale on the website and two of the DVDs came without essays. I've tried emailing Mulvaney three times over the last ten or twelve days about getting new copies and I've been ignored which surprised me. Any advice?

I've got the same question, now that for the first time in my entire history of buying Criterions I've gotten a booklet-less title. Anyone?

I always eventually get a response emailing mulvaney@criterion.com, but last time I tried I think it took two follow-up emails (each a few weeks apart) before someone finally acknowledged me. You might also just try getting a replacement copy from wherever you got the first one. If it's B&N, call their customer service line. I resolved an issue with them just this morning, after about a 15 minute wait time, and they're sending me a replacement by express shipping.

After a few weeks without response, I posted my plea for help on the Criterion Facebook page and had a Mulvaney email within the next few hours and my booklets within days.
