Very good month but no obvious sale anchor title. Interesting.

Oh sure of course.domino harvey wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 5:34 pmThose in the know could tell you To Sleep With Anger is one of the most important rescues this label has ever made. This is an anchor title for the entire Criterion Collection
I just expected something to draw in more casuals is all. Great set of titles, but I figured there would be something more popular for the sale.

See the dedicated thread for testimonials. It's one of the greatest films ever made and it never even had a DVD release in the United States. It came out at a time when black cinema began to be defined by different approaches than what Burnett offered and it's been criminally overlooked for the entirety of its existence. This is a release that will finally right a great wrong, and it's fine if you think no film could possibly merit this degree of hyperbole, because it does anyways

Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol. 7
It’s been on my radar since 2003, but not one I ever strived to track down, excited to cross it off the “watch that some day” list.domino harvey wrote:Those in the know could tell you To Sleep With Anger is one of the most important rescues this label has ever made. I very much value your opinion and if you think it's worthy of this much attention I'll be happy to check it out. The premise sounds great and I'm on board. Thank you for the clarification/explanation.domino harvey wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 5:48 pmSee the dedicated thread for testimonials. And I thought you would save the hyperbole for Wanda

Wanda is the second-best film of the 70s with the name "Wanda" in the title

Have there been any four-disc BD-height Scanavo cases used in past releases?
If not, I wonder what the packaging for Berlin Alexanderplatz will be like.

Considering the elaborate digipak of the DVD, there's no reason to think the Blu-Ray won't be similarly packaged

Not by Criterion, but Flicker Alley used a 4-disc variant for their Masterworks of Avant-Garde Cinema. It's as thick as the old 2-disc cases Criterion used to use years ago for DVD, but with two discs stacked on each side and plenty of space in-between for a booklet.

Wow, what a good month of covers... not that I wasn't already buying all of these, but it sure doesn't hurt.

Knowing Criterion, you can expect a digipack around the same size as the Dekalog or Lone Wolf and Cub which will happily be about half the size or less of the DVD set.FlickeringWindow wrote:Not by Criterion, but Flicker Alley used a 4-disc variant for their Masterworks of Avant-Garde Cinema. That Burnett cover is a real test of the it could come in a paper bag phrase. It makes the film look like a bad Arrow slasher pic. Still, one of the best films ever gets released so I should hold me complaints.

The painter, Charly Palmer, is well-known as a vocal advocate for "Black Art" as a conscious concept (which I was coincidentally just reading about), and his work embodies that. This cover is wholly within his style and approach, and a smart choice for Criterion's release

I didn't know that, but at the same time that doesn't stop it from looking like a bad Arrow cover.

The more I look at these, the more I like how simply and cleanly La vérité adapts and improves on the original poster — which I just happened to see and be intrigued by a few times in college, without ever actually having seen the film — by focusing on the (obviously) most striking element.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one high-browing the cover design. Also, unfortunately many talk about the bizarre, uncanny resemblance of the rendered character to OJ Simpson (with a big knife)! Most likely the cover will go through a revision.

Agreed - that looks very little like Danny Glover.
