I guess October is Robert Altman month at Criterion - one of his films is getting a release for the first 3 weeks...

Looks like a tip-on vinyl record box

I just hope it doesn't use sleeves.

Unfortunately, I believe they said it is going to be the same as the Zatoichi set. At least the individual releases in Scanavo cases are available.tenia wrote:I just hope it doesn't use sleeves.

And it definitely look the same from the outside, hence my apprehension.dwk wrote:Unfortunately, I believe they said it is going to be the same as the Zatoichi set.tenia wrote:I just hope it doesn't use sleeves.

Mulvaney has confirmed sleeves. I'm sticking to individual releases for unspined boxes.

That is one impractical box set! Sleeves aren't a big deal for Blu-rays like they are for DVDs thanks to the coating, but that Isolation Drills packaging is a bit silly!

I got it in today as well and it looks nice, but getting the discs out isn't all that fun.

We'll now see if Criterion indeed make available the packaging and the book for sale separately, as Mulvaney said in the past.

Let`s hope they do because it`s looks great. Too bad about the way you have to take out the discs, though

I posted a handful of photos of the "del Toro" set's book over on Facebook. You shouldn't need an account to view.

Chris, could you tell which part of the content of the book isn't in the individual booklets in terms of what and how much ? I haven't been able to find out yet.

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol.
It's sort of spread out. The intro is unique and then the rest of the book is divided into 3 parts, one for each film. Cronos has the essay and director notes. Devil's Backbone has the essay and then a sampling of the storyboards that appear as an extra on the disc (the storyboards weren't in the individual insert for that film). I can't compare to the individual Pan's Labyrinth yet as I don't have it, but that part has the essay and then a number of production sketches and drawings, which are also scattered about in the features on the disc. Other sketches and drawings are then dispersed around the book. The final few pages are then credits for the release, notes on the transfers, etc. It's 100 pages long.

Yes indeed, a very nice month. I must say, the extreme simplicity of the Black Girl cover works like crazy.domino harvey wrote:All great covers so far, and great titles

All covers are very solid. Black Girl is perfect and better than the BFI version. His Girl Friday is the best old Hollywood cover Criterion has done.
