Presumably the same disc production issues hitting other labels

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Could you elaborate on the production issues? On Amazon, I noticed that the delivery date for my order of Chikamatsu has been delayed until 11/16 and the release date for 2001 has been all over the place. What’s going on? I was really hoping to kick back with 2001, Ambersons, and put on a personal Mizoguchi retrospective over Thanksgiving.

Not an expert but from what I understand, nearly all North American disc production has been relocated to just one manufacturer in just one factory.Fortisquince wrote: ↑Wed Nov 14, 2018 1:36 amCould you elaborate on the production issues? Delays have run rampant in the industry lately due to missed deadlines and the factory running over capacity.

So, going forward all release dates will be "fake"?

Abbas Kiarostami's short film Bread and Alley now has an information page
Maybe a supplement for the Koker Trilogy? The films are coming out in Japan in February, so it's possible.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Jonathan Rosenbaum said early 2019 so it would make sense if it was announced today (or next month). I don't know if it's going to be just the Koker Trilogy or a bigger set. Not sure if that's been verified anywhere.Boosmahn wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 12:24 pmAbbas Kiarostami's short film Bread and Alley now has an information page

I wouldn't mind a separate children's film set from the Koker set, but that's just me.

David Mackenzie encoded and presented at the correct speed, so not a regrettable purchase!

Upgrading that and releasing the Koker Trilogy would be two uncommonly large releases for one month

October and November are the peak replication time of year due to the holiday push, and new release titles will get preferential treatment over catalog titles. Things should settle down and normalize by the beginning of the year.

They are up. Death in Venice, To Sleep with Anger, La verite, Shame and Berlin Alexanderplatz

With the exception of To Sleep with Anger, this is a very 2002-ish Criterion lineup - Bergman, Visconti, Clouzot, RWF. All that's missing is a Kurosawa.

Time for the Speculation Rodeo!
To Sleep with Anger - Aug newsletter clue + was previously confirmed by Burnett
Death in Venice - Confirmed via restoration credit at festival screening (same with Some Like it Hot)
La vérité - Confirmed many years ago at some event - by Becker. Restored in 2017
Shame - More Bergman stand-alone releases being trotted out for the completionists and both of the people who don't want the Bergman set
Berlin Alexanderplatz - Upgrade (was this restored?)
========================================================
249 upgrades remain. No real surprises this month (other than finally getting La verite). I wonder how many more Bergman films we're going to get still. Criterion has one more month before I remove Bringing Up Baby / Thin Man from the 2018 New Years clues section.
For Region B fans - I suspect To Sleep with Anger / Death in Venice / La verite will be made available there.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Death in Venice is not that certain compared to the other two (although it would be great to be proved wrong), how many Warner titles have been released so far in the UK?

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Criterion has released 28 Warner titles across 26 releases in the US and 10 of those films, in 9 releases, have been issued in the UK.

There are a few that have been released here, The Philadelphia Story was the most recent until True Stories gets released in January.

I mean it feels right given the circumstances. It was to be upgraded and was then pulled. I really like Ran and having Criterion put it out again would ensure an immediate purchase from me.

Captveg said the KLInsider that the SC releases Lionsgate put out will stay with Lionsgate. Hopefully that was bad info on the KLInsiders part.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Maybe they will and these will be released concurrently with the SC ones. I could see Lionsgate being persuaded if they could keep their releases in print. Universal's done it with a few Criterion titles as well, so it wouldn't be without precedent

KLInsider also made it sound like no label got any SC-owned Japanese-language titles.FrauBlucher wrote: ↑Mon Nov 26, 2018 11:27 pmCaptveg said the KLInsider that the SC releases Lionsgate put out will stay with Lionsgate. Hopefully that was bad info on the KLInsiders part.
I hope that is also wrong, as a new Ran release from Criterion would be a Day 1 buy for me.
