Re: MoC OOP
Wouldn't surprise me if they aren't printing any more of this one yet, as they have been waiting for the stock to drop before bringing out a Blu-ray/Dual release of the films. They've given most of their other Langs the upgrade treatment.

Re: MoC OOP
The DVD of The Last Laugh looks OOP, but not the "We'll never see it again" type but the "It's coming to blu" type. Thats what I think it looks like. They seem to be releasing 80% silent or American (or silent American) films at the moment, so it was inevitable really. Vampyr has got to be upgraded soon as well.
EDIT: The Silent Running steelbook has finally gone OOP. eBay being the only place to buy it now!!!

Quite - I clicked on the link partly because I had no idea to which film they were referring...swo17 wrote:Better known as La signora di tutti or Everyone But the Carnies' Woman
Anyway, I nabbed a copy off Amazon whilst I still could (I could have sworn I'd bought this already - but being a bit sad I have a separate spreadsheet that I keep updated for MoC releases...).

Looking at Amazon, Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter blu ray and the Double Idemnity steelbook is OOP. Although they didn't announce them as such. Cheapest for Rock Hunter is their website for £11.99.

Rock Hunter is still available at the Eureka store, or at least it was a few hours ago!

There is going to be madness when people discover this and Ballad of Narayama have been deleted from the store (as well as Pigsty, Funeral Parade of Roses and Grey Gardens DVDs).Dr Amicus wrote:Rock Hunter is still available at the Eureka store, or at least it was a few hours ago!
My guess is they're not announcing them to prevent scalping. Narayama is one of the films that has defined the collection for me, so I'm sad to see that one go.

Re: MoC OOP
Rock Hunter has gone surprisingly quickly though! Was considering getting it from Zavvi on Friday, was soon sold out, and now deleted on Eureka's own store...no third party sellers selling it for a sensible price, so looks like I will be missing out. Serves me right for playing the waiting game...tomN245 wrote:There is going to be madness when people discover this and Ballad of Narayama have been deleted from the store (as well as Pigsty, Funeral Parade of Roses and Grey Gardens DVDs).Dr Amicus wrote:Rock Hunter is still available at the Eureka store, or at least it was a few hours ago!

I'm definitely getting Funeral Parade of Roses...a title I've wanted for ages but was hoping it'd be in the flash sale. That's generally the problem I think - got so used to the bargain prices that I expected every title to fall to that price at some point. Grey Gardens and Pigsty I'd also like but they're not titles I'd probably watch again and again so won't be too missed.
You're right though, The Ballad of Narayama is a key MoC title - people who don't already have it should probably nab that now or never...more so than these other titles.

They'd be crazy to let the Imamuras go. Perhaps they are re-releasing his stuff as a set?

Re: MoC OOP
Talk over at the Blu-ray.com forums indicates that might be what's happening. Kevin from Eureka said it would get a sort of release in some iteration before the end of the year...kind of implying it wouldn't just be a simple reissue. So it's likely it'd either be an Imamura box set, or I suggested it could a reissue coupled with the original 1958 Kinoshita film. What's more likely is a box set, but I hope they release the extra titles separately - most collectors will already have the five Imamura Blu-ray titles they have already released (but I don't have A Man Vanishes DVD, so I'd appreciate an upgrade of that).kristophers wrote:They'd be crazy to let the Imamuras go. In terms of specific titles, depends on both materials and what they deem suitable for release, as well as which studios they want to work with. Three of the previous Imamura Blu-ray titles they released being Nikkatsu titles, that could mean Endless Desire (1958), My Second Brother (1959), Intentions of Murder (1964) and The Pornographers (1966).
And also A Man Vanishes, but I don't have the DVD so can't tell if that's with Nikkatsu or Toho. If they decide to license from Shochiku they could get Why Not (1981) or The Eel (1997), or with Toei for Zegen (1987), but I reckon they might just do one or two Nikkatsu titles and probably his more famous ones (Intentions of Murder, The Pornographers) - and like they did with the Late Mizoguchi set, the reissues in the box set would probably be single Blu-ray editions rather than Dual Format. They might add the shorter films as extras though, like they did with The Insect Woman (Nishi Ginza Station) and Pigs & Battleships (Stolen Desire). Basically, anything they end up releasing would fill in a lot of gaps between the Imamura titles they've already released (in filmography terms).
Of course this is all just speculation...they might just end up releasing one or two new ones and reissuing Narayama along side it - after all, they've recently announced a reissue of Kuroneko which shows they are confident with their Japanese titles. Other than this they also hinted at considering a Pasolini box set but said that was still pretty unlikely, and might just reissue the Pasolini titles that eventually go OOP (on both Dual Format and DVD) when the time comes...assuming by then they still have a license for them of course.

Re: MoC OOP
I'd buy an Imamura box-set even though I have all (but one) of the separate releases. I know Artificial Eye has The Eel, and its still in print so I doubt that one, but perhaps Warm Water Under a Red Bridge (Tartan has it). Can't Eureka or Arrow just buy Tartan, there's so many good titles there.
The only two OOPs I don't have is Pitfall and Salesman. I've never seen them below £15. Got the rest of them for below £12 each in the last year. That is accept for the Naruse box-set. I spent a depressing amount on that set.

I got Naruse for under $100 last year, and now it seems all but disappeared for under $250.

Anyone else remember the good old days when Eureka had the Naruse set on offer for months on end for less than £15?

Re: MoC OOP
It makes me cry to know it was that price (I paid £68 in the end. I lost like 4 auctions because people would bid over £100, and said feck it when I saw it for that price).
I got into the collection pretty late, so my fault I have to pay that. But jeez. Why the hell wouldn't people buy that set when it was so cheap?
Hell of a set by the way. I feel like I have to watch Sound of the Mountain 5 times to get my moneys worth (could totally do that btw).

Re: MoC OOP
Tartan unfortunately are now Palisades Tartan, and seem to concentrate all their efforts on their US market now (I think they even went into administration over here). I'm sure the licenses for their titles will run out eventually and Arrow/Eureka will snap up a load of them...many Asian titles, and some of my most-wanted on UK Blu-ray (e.g. Jodorowsky).tomN245 wrote:I'd buy an Imamura box-set even though I have all (but one) of the separate releases. As for an Imamura set, I'm sure Eureka will account for the people who have already bought all of the separate releases. I'd imagine they'd release the remaining titles separately as well as a box set (and maybe even the option to buy the outer box as well). At least, I'd hope they would do it like that...would be frustrating to pay twice as much as you paid in the first place for the same titles.
There are loads of MoC DVD titles that are OOP that I haven't got, but a few I managed to get for about £10 or under...luckily. Pitfall is actually the OOP title I want the most...doubt I'll ever get it though (but I did manage to get The Face of Another last year, so you never know). As you say, I'm not going to pay silly money (over £15) for any of them though. Not even gonna think about the Naruse set!

So. has the KURONEKO Blu gone out of print? It's only available from sellers on Amazon and I can't see it listed at all on Eureka's on-line store.

Really disappointed that Eureka is no longer giving consumers a heads-up about OOP titles. We don't need anything else driving our home media culture of fear of disappearance
