I'm not sure if I understand what you're describing, but you might try looking here.skeets kelly wrote:does anyone know where i can get a replacement case for Kwaidan? i just got one in the mail and the case was totally destroyed but it's a weird size...
it's like a double disc case, but it's for a single disc and most of the room is for the booklet. if anyone has any idea where i can get one, i'd greatly appreciate it. the problem is, of course, that i only need one.

yeah, it's kind of weird. it's like a double disc case if the discs were on the left and the right, but there's only one disc and the booklet side is double deep to accomodate the book. i'd get a regular case, but the outer sleeve spine is double-wide, too.

That package was made specifically to accommodate the oversized booklet, so you want to email peerpee directly for a replacement.

Re: 29 Kwaidan
The case used should be a Scanavo 22mm case. At least mine is.
These things are expensive and rather hard to get, I could replace my broken case only when the DVD-Label I did my internship for received some sample-cases from Scanavo.

Re: 29 Kwaidan
They replaced mine too, when it arrived broken from Amazon a couple of years ago. Just an aside, but I noticed that the similarly packaged MoC Nosferatu has gone from double-thick to single/normal case now. Maybe they've realised that those thick booklets can actualy squeeze into a single case, and since the Kwaidan booklet contains eight pages less than the Nosferatu, it'll also be made available in that packaging (if it isn't already).

Just curious: Does the actual DVD cover have the Cannes Jury Prize Winner Award emblem on it?

Just watched the movie and noticed something that is common to all of their releases :
Why MoC don't put any point at the end of the sentences that would require one ?

It's a British subtitling convention, that we finally realised was not ideal. Our 2009 titles feature fullstops (periods).

Thanks for the answer, I wasn't sure if it was a convention from you or the British.

Re: 29 Kwaidan
Since Criterion included Kwaidan in their Amazon "you choose the next Criterion blu-ray" poll, it seems they may already have the means to release this title (though when it will surface, who knows?). I would presume this would mean that a MoC blu-ray edition would be locked for Region B just like For All Mankind, no?Napier wrote:Count me in too! Good point. But I'm sure folks across pond wouldn't mind having a Blu Kwaidan. I prefer my MoC edition over the CC.Feego wrote:Since Criterion included Kwaidan in their Amazon "you choose the next Criterion blu-ray" poll, it seems they may already have the means to release this title (though when it will surface, who knows?). Re: 29 Kwaidan
Oh, by all means yes. I certainly wasn't trying to imply that the UK shouldn't have the Blu treatment, just that those of us locked in Region A will likely have to wait for Criterion. Until that day comes, though, I am also greatly enjoying my MoC DVD edition.tajmahal wrote:In EVERY way. A great package.Good point. But I'm sure folks across pond wouldn't mind having a Blu Kwaidan. I think Region A folk can be assured, that when KWAIDAN does come out on Criterion Blu, it will be knockout. -- We're still waiting for Japan to issue it, unfortunately (they have a 6 month thing, which is frustrating *when they haven't even released it, and have no plans to*).

Re: 29 / BD 228 Kwaidan
Since they advertise the same cut and transfer as the Criterion, it seems like the main selling point here is the packaging and book with original ghost stories, while the Criterion has a Stephen Prince commentary

I didn't remember Criterion having that many extras on Kwaidan, but they do : a 16 min ITW with Kobayashi, a 22 min one with Ogasawara and 18 min on Lafcadio Hearn.
On the other hand, Eureka will indeed have the original ghost stories, but also a Kim Newman ITW and a 35 min video essay by David Cairns.
