Re: BD 23 Silent Running
I received both my copies of Silent Running today. MOC are the only label where I buy the steelbook and non steelbook versions - a bit OTT, but owning all the other releases, to me there would be a visible gap in my collection, plus I don't mind the money going to MOC. I'm not planning to buy all the dual format re-issues, apart from Fantastic Planet which will have a remastered DVD and The World which didn't have a DVD to start with, as I'm not that OCD
I had the regular version of Silent Running for £3.99 as I ordered it before the price went down. Unfortunately, like I have had with other blus, the booklet had moved in the case and was damaged. Amazon have them in stock and they are sending me a free replacement
Does anyone else have a problem with the booklets arriving damaged or is it just me?

Re: BD 23 Silent Running
I had the problem that one of the teeth holding my touch of evil booklet had snapped so it was floating around - but yes a few other times with blu's i've had booklets slightly bent/creased, it seems to be down to fitting things into the smaller sized box compared to dvd, more room for error when they're being packed I guess

The MoC offer page clearly lists the regulare packaging as OOP http://www.eurekavideo.co.uk/offers/new.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The "limited edition" label was just suppose to be a marketing thing right?

Glad I put in an emergency (re)order on Amazon.co.uk. Ah well, I def needed another six or seven films to add onto my pile of 1000+ unwatched discs

Now the release with standard packaging shows up as available for purchase and the steelbook shows up as OOP.

Surprised no-one mentioned this but they had a good discussion of this film and the Blu on Kermode and Mayo this past week. I think they talked about it on the Radio 4 Film Programme also but I've already forgotten.

Re: BD 23 Silent Running
I received my Silent Running steelbook and have just a few remarks about it :
- I'm quite surprised by the low height of the booklet. Why such a choice ?
- I'm still not a big fan of paper detachable backsleeve with steelbook. Metropolis' one was really unpractical from an user point of view, and Silent Running's one is much better, but it's still a bit sad that it always covers some back artwork on the Steelbook. Why not print everything on it, then, and get rid of the paper sleeve ? Because you always have to unglue the top of it to open the Steelbook, so it's not perfect either.
I'm just picking, it is a lovely set. But still, that's a few things which are bothering me with MoC's Steelbooks so far.

So the booklet can fit in either the standard BD case or the SB case, printing 2 booklets at different heights can be costly and painstaking to reformat.tenia wrote:- I'm quite surprised by the low height of the booklet. Why such a choice ?

I hadn't checked at the time, but it felt like it was smaller than usual for-Amaray-made booklet.manicsounds wrote:So the booklet can fit in either the standard BD case or the SB case, printing 2 booklets at different heights can be costly and painstaking to reformat.tenia wrote:- I'm quite surprised by the low height of the booklet. Of course, I see now that it is just an optical trickery, because interior of Steelbook is higher than Amaray's one.

Re: BD 23 Silent Running
The 1972 making-of documentary, was this actually exhibited somewhere at that time? I can't imagine it being broadcast on TV (with Bruce Dern saying "Shit" (and still being able to secure a "U" rating on the disc)), and it probably wasn't shown theatrically either.
Who actually watched this at that time and how?

Could be that the piece was edited at the time to conform to length and / or content standards for network television.manicsounds wrote:The 1972 making-of documentary, was this actually exhibited somewhere at that time? Does my system not like this particular disc, or is the sound on this film out of synch with the pictures?

I saw it for the first time on a DVD from Netflix the other night and it certainly didn't sync up early on.RossyG wrote:Does my system not like this particular disc, or is the sound on this film out of synch with the pictures?

Re: BD 23 Silent Running
At first I thought it might be bad looping from 1971, but the same clips elsewhere on the BD disc - trailer and documentaries - match perfectly.
I'm just amazed none of the reviews mentioned this as it seems quite obvious. That's why I wondered if my set-up was at fault, but it plays everything else fine.
So have MoC cocked up here?

Re: BD 23 Silent Running
There's one line early on that's a bit out, as far as I can remember. Dern's wearing his robe and his vegetables get driven over. It was impossible to do anything about it.
I have an issue with my PS3, playing into a Sony Receiver, whereby certain Blu-rays are a few frames out of sync. Same Blu-rays, through a Panasonic Blu-ray player into the same receiver, also via HDMI, *not out of sync*. Very annoying.
