Re: Blue Underground
Maniac Cop 3 should be especially interesting since if I remember rightly he quite before finished shooting. I guess that's what that unrated bit is for.

You know you're in for a heartwarming film when even a cannibal apocalypse gets a cutesy pet name.

Re: Blue Underground
Hell of the Living Dead is the best kind of terrible film. It starts off pretty limply (after a sequence involving a rat in a radiation suit) with a rip-off of Dawn Of The Dead's apartment block siege (down to using the same music cues) but with terrorists involved and then has a silly interlude in a village where the heroes and heroine extremely slowly figure out that you have to shoot zombies in the head.zedz wrote:You know you're in for a heartwarming film when even a cannibal apocalypse gets a cutesy pet name.
But then it goes steadily weirder, such as the heroine trying to communicate with a tribe through getting naked and being intercut with Mondo stock footage. Or the section where one of the wackier characters bows out with a song and dance number, thereby proving that even the undead have some sense of artistic taste by stopping it in mid-performance!
I also love the final sequence of wandering around the factory. But then I do already have a strange fondness for wandering around empty industrial environments that gets played to in that sequence! And the handbrake turn into bleak nihilism was also very endearing!

Re: Blue Underground
Also there's a TV monologue at the end which is word-for-word from a TV monologue from Night of the Living Dead

Yes, though now that I'm thinking about it Women's camp 119 is also pretty enjoyable.

Re: Blue Underground
I'll be honest, you're the first person I've ever encountered who calls Women's Camp 119 "enjoyable". I find it depressing, what with all the body parts strewn about and the sadistic degradation.
And since we're on the subject of Bruno Mattei, I highly recommend Brad Jones' series "The Bruno Mattei Show" to anyone who hasn't discovered it yet. They never finished Bruno's filmography, but they produced a strong series of episodes looking at some of his best-known work.

Re: Blue Underground
I used enjoyable mostly because I'm not sure if good applies. It's a film I'd revisit I guess would be more appropriate phrasing (than again I genuinely find Salo delightful so clearly my eagerness for masochistic viewing is higher than the norm).

Re: Blue Underground
I also quite enjoyed Mattei's entry into the nunsploitation subgenre of Italian films that ripped off The Devils (and which also rips off zombie films, the dog scene from The Beyond, Inferno, Deep Red and Suspiria during its course too!), The Other Hell.
Also add in the episodes that he did in his Cinema Snob persona on Mattei's Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws and Terminator II!CSM126 wrote:And since we're on the subject of Bruno Mattei, I highly recommend Brad Jones' series "The Bruno Mattei Show" to anyone who hasn't discovered it yet.
