Le Chat qui Fume

Le Chat qui fume

Some interesting titles from the likes of Jess Franco and Umberto Lenzi, available in limited editions. English subtitles for the main features at least. Anyone own anything from the label and can confirm what is the case?

The Needle (Rashid Nugmanov, 1988) is something that caught my attention, one of the first Kazakh new wave films.

I own most of them and can confirm the following titles as having Eng subs :
Le venin de la peur
Tropique du cancer
3615 Code Père Noël
Journal d'une nymphomane
Les possédés du diable

The others don't.

Note also that The Needle is pre-orderable through their website but it technically isn't released by them, but by Badlands.

Thanks for that.

This looks like it has gotten quite the treatment with multiple subtitle options and some cool extras. The main actor Viktor Tsoi also is quite a legend apparently.

After doing some more research the film was shot in Almaty. I was in Kazakhstan this July actually and visited the town for couple days. I mostly stayed in the capital Astana and found only one film store there and the local DVDs were mostly Krupnyi Plan releases, no English subtitles. Can’t wait for the The Needle which I pre-ordered.

Specs for Possession (1981) 4K UHD. Curious whether the extras are English-friendly.

The "Possession" standard-edition is already sold out (less than 3 hours). You can still get the box edition with the book and presskit, though.

Zenabel (Ruggero Deodato, 1969)

Description
ÉDITION LIMITÉE À 1000 EXEMPLAIRES / SORTIE FIN NOVEMBRE

TECHNIQUE:
• ZENABEL- 1969 - 1h25 - Italie/France
• Restauration 4K à partir de l'interpositif français
• BLURAY - 1920x1080/24p

Hopefully this time this will include like the Criterion blu-ray the missing parts from "les abattoirs" (which - for reasons I don't understand - not on the Gaumont Blu-Ray)

They will.
As for Gaumont, the movie was released in theaters in France with this scene cut and they chose to match this cut. What was unfortunate was that they didn't include the scene at all despite having restored it, and that they didn't explain this choice before.

For what it’s worth I asked them on Twitter about including English subtitles on these Breillat’s and they replied no as the films will also be getting US releases. I wonder by who?

Was initially having a hard time imagining any US label releasing *13* of her films, but that's probably because I was picturing individual releases. Not as hard to to imagine, say, Arrow or Severin doing a box set with two films per disc. (Maybe there are more ideal or obvious labels than those; they were just the first that came to mind for that format.) Still easier to imagine someone testing the market with a volume 1 and then not doing a volume 2 when it doesn't sell, but I hope my pessimism is unwarranted; I'd love be able to get all 13!

I know that 36 Fillette just got a 4K scan of its original negative. It’s no longer controlled by its original American distributor, which isn’t a huge surprise, as it came out 35 years ago

This is exciting news, particularly the suggestion of subtitled US release/s – hopefully that means a box set!
