Also knives, was this your first viewing? If so, it's interesting that you had managed to see Passion of Martin but not Election before the Criterion came out!

I found the movie absolutely hilarious, but in the blackest comedy way. This is an extremele cynical movie where in the end, the most absolutely ambitious win.
However, I never really rooted for Flick, so while Broderick isn't much of a hero to root for, I still felt that the ending is kind of a sad one.

Yeah this is a terrific (and hilarious) film from a year of abundant riches, there was just great world cinema released in 1999.

Same here. Knives isn't wrong, but I find this delightful to screen once every year or two. I think it is incredibly funny despite the awfulness of the characters. I could probably make the same claim about It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (one of my favorite shows), but since it is a series the characters are obviously more fleshed out.
