Amazing get. I assume with Thiong'o's input it must also focus on his writing some.

Re: 852 Black Girl
Quick question - was the film ever presented with the color sequence? It's actually quite wonderful and while I could see why they'd drop it, I'm tempted to say that I personally would have preferred that they kept it in.
For someone like myself with only a passing familiarity of African cinema, these releases are extraordinary - the restoration looks incredible and the extras provide wonderfully detailed context. I knew next to nothing about the film's plot, and I was surprised to see it reflect certain thoughts I've had myself in recent weeks, spurred on by people I know who have brought individuals here to America specifically as a hired help.

Back in 2008, Jonathan Rosenbaum presented a 35mm print with the color sequence intact at the Siskel here in Chicago.

Agh, how did I miss that? I was still living there at the time.Brian C wrote:Back in 2008, Jonathan Rosenbaum presented a 35mm print with the color sequence intact at the Siskel here in Chicago.

He did several semesters of classes with the SAIC back then. They were absolutely invaluable - it’s been a whole decade but I still remember a bunch of those screenings.
